Indian State Renames Dragon Fruit Because It Associated With China

Indian state Gujarat decides to change name of dragon fruit because it associated with China.

Kuala Lumpur: The ties between two biggest Asian countries India and China have gone through many ups and downs in many aspects in their decade-old relationship, but this time, it seems that it has gone at its worst level. In a very bizarre move, one of the states of India has decided to change the name of the dragon fruit because it was associated with China.

The move comes amid a huge criticism by opposition parties after the report of building hundreds of the houses in Arunachal Pradesh of Indian territory by China.

Changing the fruit’s name, Gujarat state’s Chief Minister said that dragon is associated with China and the name of the fruit is not appropriate.

He said that fruit looks like lotus and therefore the government decided to change dragon’s name as ‘Kamalam’– the Sanskrit word of lotus. He clarified that there is nothing political in changing the fruit’s name.

Gujarat is also the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lotus is the symbol of Modi-led BJP.

The military standoff at the Himalayan region between India and China had recently reached at its dangerous level after killing more than 20 Indian soldiers. Responding to this act, New Delhi also banned Chinese-made mobile apps and minimised imports from China.
