The state of Negeri Sembilan has seen a worrying rise in child abuse cases this year. As per the Social Welfare Department, as many as 142 cases of child abuse have been recorded in the state so far.
Of these, 85 cases are physical abuse, followed by sexual abuse (36), child neglect (13), emotional abuse (four) and abandonment (four).
Last year, 160 such cases were recorded in the same time period, of these, 60 cases were of physical abuse.

“The state JKM also rescued a total of 341 child abuse victims throughout last year. Child abuse is not something that we should take lightly and must be addressed immediately,” Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Rosnah Sardi was quoted as saying by state-run news agency Bernama. The rescued children are placed in homes or safe places for a period of three years or until they reach the age of 18.
