Kuala Lumpur: A five-year-old kid was found drowned after allegedly falling into Sungai Gerong, Kampung Bikam on Sunday. Tapah District Police Chief, Superintendent Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the body of Muhamad Amsyar Mohd Zamri was found at 11.30 am, about 15 meters from where he was reported to have fallen.
He further said that his rescue operation started after he received a call from the public at about 11.15 am stating that there were drowning people in Kampung Bikam.
He said the search operation was carried out by members from the Tapah Fire and Rescue Station, the Civil Defense Force, the police and the villagers.
According to initial investigations, the incident took place when victim along with his two siblings and a cousin aged between five to 11 years old had been playing near water in Sungai Jerong around 10.45 am.
Wan Azharuddin said, when the victim fell into the river, his siblings and cousins ​​ran to tell their mother who was at home about 200 meters from the scene.
According to him, when found, the victim was confirmed dead.
