A 28-year-old former staff of Anwar Ibrahim has filed a sexual assault suit against him, putting up grave accusations, in Kuala Lumpur High Court. Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, who worked at Anwar’s office, said that the PKR chief had sexually assaulted him days before his victory in Port Dickson by-election on Oct 13, 2019. In his filing, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther said that Anwar called him on his residence October 2 in regards with a speech that he was scheduled to deliver later in the day. However, when he reached Anwar’s residence, the PKR leader called him to his study and sexually assaulted him there. Yusoff Rawther has mentioned 16 such points of sexual assault in his suit.

Yusoff has sought a court declaration that Anwar has sexually assaulted him. He has also sought general, exemplary and aggravated damages, including the cost of medical therapy sessions he is taking. Earlier, in January, 2020, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) had refused to press charges against Anwar due to “insufficient evidence” and “contradictions” of facts. Anwar’s lawyers had said that they will file a defamation suit against Yusoff Rawther, however, they decided against the same later.
