Azalina Othman, the former deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, will be the special advisor to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Othman, who had step down as the speaker a week after Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation from his post as the PM, has received her new role from the prime minister’s office on Thursday. She will be the law and human rights advisor of the PM.

Sharing an appointment letter with PM Ismail Sabri on Facebook, Azalina Othman expressed her gratitude to PM for her new role. “Thank you YAB Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the trust. Insya-Allah, I will do my best for the country,” she wrote on social media.
Othman, who created history by being the first female holder of the deputy speaker of the parliament, quit her seat in August during the tussle between UMNO and Muhyiddin Yassin government.
Othman, who has been a member of the parliament of the Pengerang since March 2004, was the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department under the Najib Razak government.
