Clarify Constitutional Amendment Bills In Parliament: Guan Eng

Opposition leader Lim Guan Eng has asked the government to clarify amendment bills other than the anti-hopping bill, which is currently on hold. He accused the government of being confused between amending the bill and a statement made by Parliament and Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. He said that in the Order Paper it is mentioned that the Constitutional Amendment Bill will be tabled for the first Parliamentary meeting.

At a press conference after the morning session of the 17th DAP annual congress, Guan Eng asked, “So we want to know what constitutional amendment in this.”

In his opening speech, Guan Eng stressed on the anti-hopping bill which was among the terms of memorandum of understanding signed between Opposition parties and the federal government to ensure unity in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the anti-hopping bill, the amendments made to the Federal constitution must be discussed with the opposition. “As far as we know, the only Constitutional amendment that was discussed with us is the anti-part hopping law.”

He highlighted the importance of discussing the amendments with the opposition: first, it’s stated in the MoU that they have to discuss with us; and second, they don’t have two-thirds majority.
