DAP MP Urges PAS to Embrace Malaysia as a Secular State to Attract Non-Malay and Non-Muslim Voters

In a bid to expand its support base and appeal to non-Malay and non-Muslim voters in the forthcoming 16th general election (GE16), the Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) and its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, have been called upon by Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng to recognize Malaysia as a secular state. In a statement, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader outlined three pivotal steps that PAS must take to win the trust of this voter demographic.

Lim Lip Eng’s recommendations come in response to Hadi’s recent address at the PAS muktamar, where Hadi emphasized the need for his party to attract non-Malay and non-Muslim voters, having already secured substantial support from the Malay community. Hadi asserted that this endeavor was a critical and challenging responsibility, instrumental for both the party and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in forming the federal government in the upcoming elections.

Emphasizing the significance of these steps in an era where religious and racial sentiments are frequently exploited for political gain, Lim Lip Eng asserted that PAS must present itself as an entity that respects the non-Muslim community, aligning with the party’s slogan, “Islam For All.”
