Emergency Unfolds as Construction Project Collapses in Bayan Lepas, Penang : Report

In a critical incident, a construction project at the DHL building site in Bayan Lepas, Penang, collapsed, trapping 18 individuals under debris. The Fire and Rescue Department is actively engaged in rescue operations. Azrul Khairi Abu Bakar, the department’s Jalan Perak operations head, reported the distress call at approximately 9.58 pm. Present at the scene, Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid confirmed the involvement of 18 Bangladeshi individuals, with ongoing rescue efforts and five successful rescues reported.

In a distressing incident last night, a construction project at the DHL building site along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway in Bayan Lepas, Penang, collapsed, leaving 18 individuals trapped under the debris. The Fire and Rescue Department, as of the latest update, is uncertain about the status of the victims.

The department’s Jalan Perak operations head, Azrul Khairi Abu Bakar, reported that the distress call was received around 9.58 pm, prompting immediate response from rescue teams. Firefighters are currently engaged in rescue operations, navigating through the wreckage of broken scaffolding at the site of the collapse.

According to Azrul Khairi Abu Bakar, “Preliminary information indicates that 18 individuals are trapped, and ongoing rescue efforts are in progress. Regular updates will follow as the situation unfolds.”

Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid, who was present at the scene, confirmed the involvement of 18 Bangladeshi individuals in the incident. He stated, “I have been informed that the incident occurred at about 8.30 pm, and that there are 18 Bangladeshi individuals (involved).” The rescue team continues its efforts to extract victims from the rubble.
