Kuala Lumpur: A member of General Operations Force (GOF) corporal Baharuddin Ramli, who killed in a fatal shooting at Thailand border, will be honoured with a bravery medal by Yang di-Pertuan Agong. His colleague, who severely injured while fighting against smugglers at the border, will also be awarded, confirmed Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin on Thursday.
Hamzah stated that the Agong agreed to give them the medal, while one of them will get posthumously.
This comes after the duo got in a ceasefire with some 13 smugglers near Padang Besar.
Hamzah expressed his gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong for agreeing to give the duo the Panglima Gagah (PGB) medal for their service and sacrifice.
He added that 18 smugglers are remanded to facilitate the investigation, while it is believed that they smuggled Ketem leaves and cough medicines from Thailand in exchange of syabu, yaba pills and heroin with Malaysia.
