Kuala Lumpur: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said the Department of Islamic Development’s (Jakim) Halal certification must be clarified. Adding that the government will improve and update the Halal standards especially for imported meat.
He said that the government will monitor how the countries, who want Halal certification to import their meat to Malaysia process their meat.
After handing over food donations from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to residents of the Taman Wahyu People’s Housing Project (PPR), he said that the department will ensure that the matter will be looked deeply and
will address all the legal aspects.
Earlier, it was reported that the cartel smuggled frozen meat from China, Ukraine, Brazil and Argentina before repackaging the meat using the halal logo at a warehouse in Senai, Johor. It is believed that the shop has been selling non-halal meat in Malaysia for years now.
Zulkifli advised consumers to refer to Jakim’s website to check all the Halal listed products.
