Kuala Lumpur: Jakim research division director Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee revealed that other agencies are investigating what went wrong with Halal certification SOP. Adding that Jakim is not conducting any investigation on the fake meat cartel.
He urged the public to have patients and wait for the agencies to reveal their findings. While he said that he cannot disclose the names of the agencies.
He pointed out that Jakim is responsible to maintain overseas slaughterhouses meet the criteria, after which other authorities will be involved such as the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) and the Veterinary Services Department (DVS).
Earlier, On 1 December in a joint operation, authorities crippled a meat cartel, which smuggled frozen meat from China, Ukraine, Brazil and Argentina before repackaging the meat using the halal logo at a warehouse in Senai, Johor.
It is believed that the shop has been selling non-halal meat in Malaysia for years now.
