Is Your Face Mask Made Of Graphene? It May Cause Lung Diseases

Some requests have been made against the use of graphene made masks and PPE kits for people. Graphene is the grey inner layer or lining that has the potential to kill germs in masks. However, some studies done by experts in European Union and Canada,  have suggested that they can be harmful to the lungs. Recently, these masks were banned in Canada’s Quebec and Ottawa.

The Malaysian government has been urged to stop the use of masks and PPE gears made of graphene material as it can pose serious health risks.

Recently, graphene made masks were banned in Canada’s Quebec and Ottawa.

Studies have shown that graphene – usually a grey inner layer or lining in face coverings – can cause lung toxicity in animals.

Mohideen Abdul Kader, the president of the Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP), has urged against the use of such masks for public.

“In many of the currently used masks in the market, graphene nanoparticles are used to eliminate kill germs, however, the flakes can be sloughed off and inhaled into the lungs,” he said.

“Graphene is touted to have antiviral and antibacterial properties, but users of such face masks have complained of breathing difficulty, skin irritation and the feeling of ‘breathing in cat hair,” he added.
