Malaysia’s Harimau Malaya Surges in FIFA Rankings After Impressive Wins : Report

In a remarkable climb, Malaysia’s national football team, the Harimau Malaya, has ascended seven places to secure the 130th position in the latest FIFA rankings.

Led by Kim Pan Gon, the team’s success in Group D of the 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers, defeating Kyrgyzstan 4-3 on Nov 16 and Taiwan 1-0 on Nov 21, contributed to this significant improvement. The team now boasts a total of 1,122.87 points, marking a commendable rise from their previous 137th position held since October 26.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has set an ambitious target, aiming to propel the Harimau Malaya into the top 120 by the year’s end. Following the recent victories, Malaysia gained an additional 26.15 points, showcasing the team’s prowess on the international stage.

Despite this progress, Malaysia trails behind other Southeast Asian nations, with Vietnam holding the 94th position and Thailand at 113th. In the broader Asian zone, Japan leads the pack at 17th, followed by Iran (21st), South Korea (23rd), Australia (25th), and Saudi Arabia (56th).

On the global scale, Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champions, maintain their supremacy as the number one team, with France in second place, England third, Belgium fourth, and Brazil completing the top five teams in the FIFA rankings. The Harimau Malaya’s surge reflects a promising trajectory, igniting hopes for further success in the competitive realm of international football.
