In a recent update, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore were in discussions about a joint bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, with Malaysia initially expressing interest in supporting Saudi Arabia’s bid. However, it’s important to note that this is a dynamic situation, and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President, Datuk Hamidin Amin, clarified that Malaysia has not engaged in any conversations regarding hosting the 2034 World Cup with anyone.

On the other hand, the president of the Indonesia Football Federation (PSSI), Erick Thohir, indicated that discussions were underway with Australia regarding a potential joint bid for the tournament. Thohir suggested that a combined bid from Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore could enhance their chances of hosting the World Cup.

FIFA has encouraged nations from Asia and Oceania to submit proposals for hosting the 2034 World Cup. The decision for the host country is expected to be made after Saudi Arabia confirmed its intent to submit a bid. Interested nations have until October 31 to declare their intentions.

Thohir emphasized that the Middle East had recently hosted the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, and there might be a preference for other regions. He believed that the joint bid from these Asian countries could increase their likelihood of being selected as hosts.

The final outcome of this bid process will be determined in the coming months as countries make their official submissions and FIFA evaluates the potential hosts for the 2034 World Cup.
