Kuala Lumpur: The number of flood victims in the three districts in the Melaka continued to increase from 492 yesterday to 520 people, involving 148 families. The head of the Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Effendy Ali said, a total of six temporary evacuation centers (PPS) were opened with four of them in Jasin district.
Jasin still recorded the highest number of victims from 325, yesterday to 356 people from 105 families today, involving Kampung Tehel, Taman Tuah Perdana and Kampung Parit Gantong.
Meanwhile, the number of victims in the Alor Gajah district is 46 people from 11 families from Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Pulau and Kampung Belimbing.
Earlier, 71 evacuees, from 15 families were accommodated at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Durian Tunggal in Alor Gajah centre, out of which 25 individuals from five families were permitted to return home last night.
A total of 118 victims from 32 families involved in the Melaka Tengah district including residents from Kampung Pengkalan Minyak, Kampung Busut Licin, Kampung Ayer Molek and Ayer Molek Public House.
The two rivers, namely Sungai Chohong, Jasin and Sungai Melaka (Melaka Pindah), Alor Gajah which caused the floodwater overflow is still showing an upward trend with the current levels of 10.75 meters and 10.74 meters respectively.
