No Extension Of Emergency: Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan

Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan said today that the government will not advise the Agong to extend the emergency upon it’s expiry next month. According to the minister, all emergency ordinances would also be revoked. This means, that the emergency will end on August 1, almost 7 months after it was imposed in January. The revocation of the ordinances was effective from July 21, the minister said. The statement saw proetsts from the opposition benches. The uproar in the Parliament created continued the interruptiond of the PM’s speech. DAP’s Gobind Singh Deo argued that the decision on the emergency extension can be only be decided by the Parliament. PKR chief Anwar Ibrahim said there should be a process in place to decide on the emergency extension in the country.
