Kuala Lumpur: In one of the most sensational crackdowns on corruption government officials, a KP19 grade immigration official has been caught with a fleet of luxury cars, super bikes and a number of houses among many other valuable possessions. The total cost of valuables caught is nothing less than RM 800,000, while the actual value might come out later.
The seizures were done under the “Ops Selat” exercise that has so far seen arrest of at least 50 people. Under Ops Selat, the authorities are cracking down on companies and individuals involved in the illegal immigration business. The authorities are chasing and busting down the entire illegal immigration syndicate in the country. The arrests so far involve 28 Immigration Department officers, 17 foreign worker agents and five others.
In the latest incident, an Immigration officer and three foreign worker agents who have been remanded for six days.
The syndicate, that claims to be providing “stamping facilities”, is allegedly involved in international human trafficking, particularly in China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
