Penang Ready To Corporate With MACC To Deal With Corruption Practices

Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the state is ready to corporate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to deal with corruption issues amongst the civil servants. This comes after MACC chief Azam Baki expressed concern over the reports of civil servants accepting bribes, abusing power and making false claims. Chow Kon Yeow said no one is above the law and officers involved in corruption must be charged as soon as possible.

In a statement, Chow Kon Yeow welcomed the Macc investigation in the state against the civil servants. The investigation is in line with the CAT principles of good governance, competency, accountability and transparency practised since 2008.

Azam Baki yesterday revealed that MACC has received 312 reports of civil servants accepting bribes and 147 of them abusing power in Penang. “No one is above the law and civil servants, whether from federal, state or local authorities and agencies, found to be involved in accepting bribes, abuse of power and making false claims must be investigated and charged as soon as possible,” Penang CM said.

However, he demanded the Anti-corruption commission to be transparent with the investigation as the state does not want the image of its civil servants being tarnished on ground of complaints received since 2019.
