Perak Floods: More Than 700 People Evacuated As Situation Worsens

Kuala Lumpur: The flood situation is worsening in Perak, doubling the number of people evacuated at the shelter home. More residents were rescued to six relief centres, increasing the number from 319 to 736 so far.

A spokesman for the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that Larut, Matang and Selama are the worst-affected areas in the district with over 569 evacuees.

Yesterday, 364 evacuees from Kampung Bendang Luas, Kampung Teras, Kampung Masjid and Kampung Baru Gelugor were accommodated in the fourth relief centre at Masjid Toh Paduka, Ijok, which was opened in LMS at around 7 pm.

While there are three more relief centres in LMS, with 55 evacuees at Kampung Seri Ara Community Hall, 47 at Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat Ngah Ibrahim, Matang, and 103 at Dewan Semai Bakti Felda Ijok.

Among the worst affected areas are Kampung Tebuk Panchur, Kampung Kg Alor Setanggok, Kampung Tanjung Bugis and Kampung Parit Abu Hassan Ban.

The firefighters of Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, along with the Civil Defence Force and various agencies are conducting many operations to evacuate people from the affected regions.
