PM Anwar to Lead Committee Ensuring Efficient Allocation of Budget 2024

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has revealed the formation of a Budget Monitoring Committee aimed at guaranteeing the effective allocation of resources within Budget 2024 for the benefit of the people. This committee will be under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as Finance Minister, and will comprise Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim, Treasury Secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, and Ahmad Maslan himself.

The establishment of this committee aligns with the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Bill 2023, recently approved by Parliament. According to Ahmad Maslan, the committee’s duties will include reporting on the progress of the 2024 Budget from January to June, with the final report scheduled for presentation in Parliament in September of the following year.

He emphasized the importance of efficient budget implementation and called on all government agencies and ministries to adhere to project timelines. Prime Minister Anwar unveiled the 2024 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat, emphasizing that it is the largest budget ever presented, with allocations totaling RM393.8 billion.

Earlier, Ahmad Maslan and Steven Sim participated in a run as part of the 2023 National Sports Day, attracting over 2,300 participants.
