Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially introduced the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP) for the country, setting ambitious goals for the manufacturing sector. The NIMP aims to elevate the value of manufacturing to RM587.5 billion by the year 2030, with a projected annual growth rate of 2.3 percent from the current year onwards. This initiative is expected to generate employment for 3.3 million individuals by 2030 and significantly increase the median salary within the manufacturing sector, reaching RM4,510, up from RM1,976.
Addressing the launch event, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and other Cabinet members, Prime Minister Anwar emphasized the pivotal role of the NIMP in reshaping the nation’s industrial landscape.
Anwar further explained that this remarkable 128 percent increase from 2021 is driven by the industry’s shift toward higher value-added activities and the creation of high-skilled job opportunities. He also noted that despite the manufacturing sector’s substantial contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP), the median salary had lagged behind the national average, making this growth imperative.
In terms of financing, the NIMP is expected to necessitate a total investment of approximately RM95 billion over seven years, primarily sourced from the private sector, including private equity, capital markets, and financial markets. To ensure effective and timely execution, Anwar announced the establishment of a public-private governance structure, introducing a Delivery Management Unit (DMU) under the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) to coordinate and harmonize implementation efforts across all stakeholders.
