PM Muhyiddin Yassin Has Changed His Name, Here’s The Reason

All the government officials have told to use Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s name as Mahiaddin Md Yasin with immediate effect. PM’s principal private secretary Dr Marzuki Mohamad has directed the civil servants that PM must be addressed by his name with change in the spelling in his first name. The move comes after Attorney General’s (AG) Chambers adviced to do so.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will be known as Mahiaddin Md Yasin with immediate effect, according to the PMO. The circular dated June 3 by AG has stated that PM must use his official name as per the documents. He must be known as Mahiaddin Md Yasin or Tan Sri Dato Haji Mahiaddin Md Yasin, the circular said.

The issue regarding the PM’s official name had come up when the court decided to reverse a preventive detention order due to ‘wrong sign’ by Muhyiddin, who was serving as the Home Minister then. During the hearing, the judge ruled that the prime minister must use his gazetted name of Mahiaddin Md Yasin as that was the one stated in his MyKad. It should not be violation of Ministerial Functions Act 1969, according to the court.

Soon after the AG’s order, PMO has asked all the government officials to use PM’s official name and signature in government.
