Kuala Lumpur: Petaling MP Maria Chin Abdullah said Perikatan Nasional should not use the emergency to win support from opposition lawmakers.
He stated that the government should not be given the right to spend as it sees fit, however, it should discuss the budget with the lawmakers.
She stated that debate over the supply and confidence bill would allow MPs from different parties to unite and work together. She further added that MPs must be permitted to suggest necessary changes in the bills.
Maria said that any alternative other than an emergency would result badly for Malaysia’s economy.
She stated that a rejection of the federal budget would mean a successful vote on the no-confidence motion, which would call for resignation of the entire cabinet.
