Kuala Lumpur: India Hockey Captain Manpreet Singh Pawar tied the knot with his long-time Malaysian girlfriend Illi Najwa Saddique on 17 December.
The wedding ceremony took place at Manpreet ‘s native place near Jalandhar city of Punjab state.
Their love story had begun during Sultan of Johor Cup in 2012. After having a brief interaction with her, Indian player somehow managed to get her phone number.
Illi said it was love at first sight and she could not stop herself from saying ‘yes’ when he proposed to her.
The couple got engaged in February 2014 and have been going strong with each other for the past eight years.
Keeping aside the ongoing politics, the couple looked beautiful together in Punjabi wedding attire.
Family and friends attended the love bird wedding, in which Manpreet was seen in a Punjabi wedding suit with a turban, and Illi looked gorgeous in Punjabi bridal costume.
The couple looked beautiful together and Manpreet in a statement confirmed Illi will be staying with him in Punjab, India.
Where Illi is Muslim, it is believed her Sikh husband had converted to Islam.
The bride, who basically hails from Pakistan and is working in a private university in Malaysia, said she has become fond of Punjabi culture.
