Sabah Man Jailed For 12 Years For Raping His Sister

A 24-year-old man has been sent to jail for at least 12 years for raping his sister. He had raped her sister over last year in January 2020, according to the victim’s elder sister’s police complaint. The court also ordered to give 10 strokes of the cane for this heinous offence to the accused, who belongs to Tuaran, Sabah.

The incident came to light after the victim revealed The case was investigated under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of 8 to 30 years and whipping if convicted.

The sessions court judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim ruled out the sentence after the suspect maintained his plea of guilty to the charges against him. His jail term will be counted from the date of his arrest on June 5, 2020.

Counsel Farazwin Haxdy, asked for the lowest imprisonment considering it was his first offense and that the suspect has pleaded guilty and is remorseful of his actions.

Meanwhile, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Faezah Jafry asked the court to rule out a heavy sentence, considering the seriousness of the offence. She said brothers are meant to protect sisters and not take advantage of them. The suspect had even threatened the victim of causing injury if she revealed the incident to anyone.
