Kuala Lumpur: National junior shuttler V. Poopathi has been permitted to go home to celebrate Deepavali with his family.
This comes after the 16-year-old got clearance from the BA of Malaysia to travel home to celebrate the festival of lights with his loved ones.
“I’m really happy that BAM has approved my request to celebrate Deepavali with my family,” he said, adding that he was tense as he had never celebrated without his family and he thought this would be his first because of a conditional movement control order.
Earlier, Poopathi successfully retained his place in Group A following his win in all of his matches in the recent National Junior Rankings (promotion and relegation) Challenge at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.
He will undergo swab tests and self-quarantine before returning to the national training programme, however, he can join immediately after his reports return negative.
Meanwhile, senior shuttlers Sea Games gold medallist S.Kisona and national women’s doubles shuttler M.Thinaah chose to stay at ABM to save themselves from the CMCO hassle.
