Tensions amongst UMNO MPs are rising over Anwar’s announcement of having strong and formidable support. MPs have been divided into three groups, one who is backing Anwar, others who are not in his support and the third group has yet to decide.
Earlier on 23 September, Anwar Ibrahim announced that he had the numbers to topple Yassin and form a new government.
He said that he has garnered a “strong, formidable, convincing majority” of Members of Parliament (MPs) to form a new government.
One of the MPs said few members were openly supporting Anwar, causing discomfort for those who did not want to be a part of it. Adding that some are waiting for Anwar to meet Agony before coming forth with their support.
He added that these MPs are playing safe, as they wouldn’t be affected negatively if he fails. He said some of the MPs are supporting him because they feel cheated by the current Prime Minister.
