Umno Firmly Rejects Revisiting Ties with Deceptive Parties, Asserts Zahid

In a clear stance, Umno President Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has underscored that Umno has no intention of rekindling cooperation with parties or leaders known for their deceptive tactics. Dr. Ahmad Zahid, who also holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister, firmly stated that genuine cooperation must stem from sincerity, rejecting any involvement with individuals exhibiting manipulative and crafty behaviors.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Ahmad Zahid highlighted that leaders and parties driven by manipulation and trickery are unwelcome in the Umno’s sphere. He asserted, “Any leader and party that is very manipulative, I don’t think we (Umno) should revisit that relationship.” This comment came in response to a query regarding a report suggesting that PAS remains open to continuing collaborative efforts with Umno under the unification agenda.

The statement was made after Dr. Ahmad Zahid attended a dinner event with diplomats and representatives from 29 member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) the previous night. This event provided him with the opportunity to reiterate Umno’s commitment to authentic and transparent alliances.

The backdrop for this assertion was a comment by PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who emphasized the importance of unity among the ummah, particularly among the Malays. He cited the need for reconciliation, even as he responded to former Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s call to revitalize the spirit of Muafakat Nasional (MN), especially involving the two parties.
