UMNO Might Leave PN Before Parliament Reconvenes: Report

Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional (PN) may face a huge setback as several UMNO leaders have expressed their willingness to break-up with the coalition government.

The development came after the party meeting at UMNO headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. According to reports, UMNO may leave the PN before August 1, according to FMT.

The meeting was called by UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who had given an ultimatum to PM Muhyiddin Yassin on the issue of reopening parliament.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called a meeting on Monday with its party members to discuss withdrawing support from the PN government. The move comes days after Zahidi had warned Muhyiddin Yassin for reopening the parliament, giving a 14-day ultimatum.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin Yassin’s office today said that Parliament will reconvene on July 26 for at least five days. The statement said that the Prime Minister will also advise the King to convene Dewan Negara will sit for three days from Aug 3 to 5.
