In a significant gathering at Menara Dato Onn within the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur, several prominent Umno leaders convened for the Supreme Council meeting. Scheduled to commence at 8pm and chaired by Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, this meeting was anticipated to address pivotal decisions impacting the party’s future.
One of the foremost topics of discussion was the potential expulsion of various party members, including Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil. Isham publicly voiced his concern, explaining that his reluctance to promote DAP had led to his impending dismissal. Allegedly, pro-DAP Umno Supreme Council members had urged him to resign, a request he vehemently declined, emphasizing that his position had been bestowed by grassroots support.
The meeting also revolved around the actions of Rembia Assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis. His attendance at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate nomination ceremony for the Pulai Parliament and Simpang Renggam State Assembly by-election in Bakri, Johor, drew scrutiny from fellow party members.
Notably, among those present at the meeting were Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Umno Supreme Council members Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The decisions reached in this gathering held paramount significance for the future direction of the Umno party.
