In a recent event, Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh, the chief of Umno Youth, expressed the group’s commitment to the unity government, which they see as the true representation of Malaysia’s diverse population. He stated that Umno Youth would actively participate in the upcoming by-elections in Johor to counter what they referred to as the “green wave” brought about by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) opposition, which they believe threatens to divide the country.
The “red and blue” wave mentioned by Dr. Muhamad Akmal signifies the unity between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), which are represented by red and blue respectively. These colors also coincide with the colors of the Johor flag. Umno Youth aims to promote unity through these colors and reject divisive politics.
Dr. Muhamad Akmal emphasized that the unity government represents the spirit of Malaysia’s independence, which included collaboration between various ethnic communities such as Malays, Chinese, Indians, as well as Sabah and Sarawak communities. He rejected claims by PN that the unity government threatens Malays and clarified that Umno Youth will ensure that religious, racial, and royalty matters are treated with respect and within limits.
In essence, Umno Youth is positioning itself to support the unity government and counter any divisive politics, as they believe it mirrors the true essence of Malaysia’s diverse society. They view their participation in the upcoming by-elections as a means to strengthen this unity and reject extremist politics.
