Earlier in an interview, Johnny Depp claimed that Hollywood is boycotting him and expressed his concern for “Minamata”. Further adding that his film, ‘Minamata’, is simply being released within the UK as MGM is worried his personal issues will be bad for them. However, his fans have shown their tremendous support on social media, with some “even ready to boycott Hollywood if they boycott him.”

Johnny Depp is currently embroiled in a high profile legal battle with her ex-wife Amber Heard. Heard had accused Depp of physically abusing her during their relationship. In November 2020, he lost a legal battle against the publisher of The Sun, who referred to him as a “wife-beater”.

Depp’s film is yet to be released in the US. Director Lewis has claimed MGM is “burying” the movie due to Depp’s legal matters. MGM has proclaimed the film will stay on its future release schedule but has not set a date for it.
