Shakira Did Tax Fraud In Spain? Judge Says “Enough Evidence”

Colombian music composer Shakira is trending worldwide as she is likely to face tax evasion charges after she failed to pay up to 14.5 million Euros. A judge in Spain ruled that there is sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.

The Grammy Award winner is accused of avoiding her fiscal obligations to the country.

Judge Marco Juberias has stated that there are enough evidence of tax evasion for the case to go before a trial judge. She is accused of not paying up to 14.5 million Euros in income tax in Spain between 2012 and 2014.

The judge ruled in a pre-trial investigation that the documents annexed to the lawsuit are sufficient evidence of wrongdoing to continue with the proceedings.

However, Shakira’s representatives said that they are confident and will fully cooperate with the judiciary.

Shakira’s representative also stated that she did not reside in Spain until 2015 and owed nothing to the Spanish tax authorities. But prosecutors argued she had been living in Spain for most of the year, despite having permanent residence in the Bahamas.

Her lawyers said in an emailed statement on Thursday that they had no immediate comment to make.

Shakira began a relationship with Spanish professional soccer player Gerard Pique in 2011 and is a mother of two.
