YouTube Removes R Kelly’s Official Channel After Sex Trafficking Conviction

YouTube has confirmed it has brought down R&B singer R Kelly’s channels from its platform following his sex trafficking conviction last month. The world’s largest video platform said it had removed two of his channels, namely RKellyTV and RKellyVevo. R Kelly has been accused of using his fame to sexually abuse women and minor girls.

In a statement, YouTube said that the channels were terminated in accordance with the platform’s creator responsibility guidelines. According to the guidelines, if a channel owner is convicted or pleads guilty to a serious crime, the platform decides whether to keep or delete the channel.

Earlier in September, the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer R Kelly was found guilty of committing nine serious crimes, including sex racketeering. He has been accused of recruiting women and minors for sex before sexually exploiting them.

The accusations have been made against him for decades. In 2002, he was even arrested for making videos containing sexual abuse of children, however the court found him not guilty. Later in 2017, some women started a campaign, which turned out into #MutRKelly movement, demanding to ban his music videos.
