Instagram User Insults Agong, Puts Communist Symbol On National Flag, Police File Report

Kuala Lumpur: An investigation has been launched by the criminal investigation unit against a social media user allegedly insulting Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Police said that Agong’s face was morphed by a social media user. The culprit will be charged under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Authorities said that police found the Instagram account name with Bukan_Bang_Jago, who not only posted a morphed photo of Agong but also tempered with Malaysian National Anthem and put a communist symbol on Malaysian National flag.

Urging the people to use social media wisely and do not harm the social order, Federal CID chief Huzir Mohamed said that strict action will be taken who misused this platform and try to disturb the peace and social harmony of the country.

A similar incident took place last year in October, wherein four people were arrested by police for challenging King’s role in Malaysia.

Supporting the ongoing student-led Thailand’s protest, they wrote on their social media a similar post by saying “’Now in Bangkok, they are saying no to the King”.
