Kuala Lumpur: Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik has announced to quit Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), citing that he wanted to focus on his own constituency. The move comes a day after his name was not mentioned in a joint press conference in all-party meeting on 1 November.
Sharing his resignation on Twitter, the former education minister quoted that he would continue his effort in the movement for changes in education through his capacity as an independent member of Parliament.
Maszlee said in a statement that his decision to withdraw Dr Mahathir Mohamad-led three-month party is based on “detailed observations and field research” of the people’s aspirations and needs.
“I believe effort for change does not require power and position solely but through passion and opportunity,” he further added in his resignation statement.
