Hurricane Iota Intensifies In Nicaraguan, 6 Dead

The intensifying Hurricane Iota has made landfall in several parts of the central American country Nicaraguan, killing at least six people as of now. The powerful Iota hit the Caribbean coast last Monday, just two weeks after the catastrophic hurricane Eta struck the country.

According to reports, the Category 4 Iota has affected more than 400,000 people with maximum sustained winds near 155 mph.

Thousands of people have been evacuated and many are still waiting for rescue as Iota has rapidly intensified and became one of the most dangerous storms in history.

According to National Hurricane Center (NHC), Iota is expected to be further downgraded to a tropical depression later on Tuesday.

Bilwi, Puerto Cabezas, witnessed the most affected province as hundreds of homes were destroyed while cut off electricity, and flooded streets forced people to leave their places.

More than 62,000 people have been shifted to government-made shelter homes due to the powerful storm.

Earlier on 3 November, one of the most powerful storms in Central America in the coming years, ‘Eta’, struck one of the poorest regions of Nicaragua off its Caribbean coast. The tropical storm caused the widespread flooding and landslides that left 200 people dead.
