Well! If you are not aware, WhatsApp has recently updated its privacy policy which has given birth to many concerns and thoughtful questions. It has also triggered a major uproar and is believed to come into effect on 8 February 2021.
While many users are planning to exit the application and are turning to other alternatives like Telegram and Signal.
Here are the 5 major concerns related to the latest update:-
- As we all are aware, Facebook bought WhatsApp in 2014. Earlier, updating its policies, it gave the users a choice to use the application without sharing the data with Facebook, however, this is not the case this time.
- The two platforms (WhatsApp and Facebook) will enable the companies to better understand user preferences and targets with ads and services by enhancing its algorithms.
- WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption clause remains intact, but this only ensures that it can’t see your messages, or share it with anyone. With the updated privacy policy, WhatsApp can now share one’s metadata – which is essentially everything beyond the actual text of the conversation with Facebook.
- The new policy allows Facebook to access the commercial interactions and user shopping activity to target ads and customise content.
- WhatsApp has nearly 5 million accounts and any transaction or interaction done on the platform will be accessible to those businesses and its third-party service providers.
