Pope Francis has become the first sitting pontiff to openly express his acceptance for same-sex unions.
The popish thumbs-up arrived midway in the recently released documentary “Francesco,” which premiered at the Rome Film Festival yesterday.
The documentary highlights recent interviews with Francis that are dwelling around the concerns that intrigue the pope. These include the environment, poverty, income inequality, and discrimination.
The revelation made in the documentary has sparked roars of delight from gay Catholics, However, some conservatives have also demanded clarifications on the matter.
“Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God,” Pope mentioned regarding the discrimination the LGBT community faces.
Josh Coleman, LGBTQ Liaison at the city of Birmingham’s, said that the Pope’s endorsement of same-sex civil unions is huge. “We hope and advocate that the Catholic Church will continue to fully embrace LGBTQ members and marriage equality,” Coleman added.
