Paris: A history teacher in France was knifed to death after discussing a caricature of Prophet Mohammed in class and his killer was shot dead by police, according to authorities.
French anti-terror prosecutors linking the incident to a terrorist organisation” and related to a “criminal association with terrorists”
According to French media, the assailant attacked the victim at the outskirts of Paris at around 5 pm near a school in Conflans Saint-Honorine.
Police said that incident took place days after the parent of a student filed a complaint against the teacher, who was discussing the ‘freedom of speech’ in class.
According to Reuters report, the teacher also urged Muslim students to skip the class before starting the chapter, as a caricature of Prophet Mohammed may hurt their sentiments.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the incident, saying, “citizen has been murdered because he was a teacher and because he taught freedom of expression”.
Last month in Septemner, a Islamist attacker had wounded two people just outside the former office of France’s satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, whose staff was killed in a terrorist attack by Islamic extremists in 2015, for reprinting Prophet Mohammed’s cartoon.
