Legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen died on Tuesday. He was 65. The guitarist’s band, Van Halen, is considered one of the most popular rock groups of all time. Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, revealed the news of Halen’s death on Twitter. He said that his father had “lost his long and arduous battle with cancer.” Eddie Van Halen was known as the inventor of tapping technique. His 1978 instrumental “Eruption”, which was voted No 2 in Guitar World’s readers poll of the “100 Greatest Guitar Solos”, showcased a solo technique called tapping, using both left and right hands on the guitar neck.
However, it should be noted that Van Halen popularized tapping, but he did not invent the tapping technique, which had been used infrequently by various guitarists before then.
