Kuala Lumpur: A 29-year-old Filipino young woman has been caged by her own family over the past five years in the Philippines because they are not able to afford her medical bills. The woman, who wanted to become a professional model, has been passing through a serious mental health issue since 2014.
According to a report, the woman, Bebe’s, health was improving gradually when she came back to her home from the hospital in 2014, but her condition took a turn for the worse when her father was left bedridden due to his bad health. This resulted in Bebe’s medical treatment.
According to family friends, she used to run off and wander on roads, or ride a bus, sometimes even throw things at neighbours.
All the hallucinations made her cranky and she used to randomly snap at the family members. In order to protect her and keep her safe, the family members built a small cage inside the house to put Bebe inside.
The family claims that they are doing this for her own good and to save her from herself until they can afford her treatment. They even dress her in sacks, so that she would not munch on her dress.
Glyzel Bullos, who is her family friend, is now trying to raise some funds to send her back to the hospital to provide a proper treatment.
