At least eight people have killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at the students on the university campus in Perm, Russia. According to reports, the suspect, who is believed to be a student, has been detained by the authorities. The national Investigative Committee law enforcement agency has launched an investigation into the matter.

According to authorities, at least 19 people have been injured during the incident. The officials said that most of the students have injured while trying to escape from the university.

Footages, that circulating on social media, show that students throwing their bags and jumping from the windows of the classes to save their lives.

Perm University wrote on social media and urged students to stay calm and lock themselves in the classrooms.

According to BBC, the suspect had written a post on social media and said that that he was acting alone and had no political or religious motives.

The reason behind the shooting at the university is yet to be known.
