Singapore is in talks with Malaysia to buy 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity on a trial basis for at least two years, as a part of clean energy generation.
According to Singapore’s trade and industry minister Chan Chun Sing, the proposal of the plan will be tabled before the Malaysian government in March next year and the imports will start by the end of 2021. The project will be done by using an interconnector between Malaysia and Singapore.
The move will help to facilitate larger-scale imports from the region in future, said in a statement by EMA.
Starting this new project with Malaysia, Singapore’s Trade and Industry Minister stated that move would further allow the region to share the clean energy sources that different countries may have.
According to reports, it will fulfil about 1.5% of Singapore’s peak electricity demand.
