Thailand Bans Mass Gatherings As Protesters Challenge King & PM

Bangkok: Tens of thousands of Thai protestors gathered in central Bangkok in a mass show of resistance after the government imposed a state of emergency and banned demonstrations in an attempt to end protests that lasted more than three months.

Thai citizens, who demanded political reform in country, called police to release imprisoned activists that were arrested during the anti-government protest.

Despite police requests over a loudspeaker to scatter, the group spilled across the Ratchaprasong Intersection in one of Bangkok’s liveliest commercial districts.

The rigid protestors dispersed with a pledge to return to the same place every day with another rally planned on the coming Friday. The emergency measures forced on Thursday ban gatherings of five or more people at a given time or place.

The growing protests have targeted King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, who led the 2014 revolution, in the biggest hurdle for years to an establishment long dominated by the army and palace.
