UN Human Rights Slams Philippines President For Sexist Remarks Against Women

Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has slammed Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, saying that his misogynistic jokes and sexist remarks against women should not be tolerated. CHR Commissioner Karen Gomez Dumpit said as the world marked the International Day to End Violence Against Women that President must instead focus on making the government’s typhoon relief that has recently killed dozens of people and forced thousand of Filipino to evacuate their homes.

Dumpit pointed out that the Philippines is a signatory to the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and that the nation has strict laws against this.

He added that sexist and misogynistic comments would never be tolerated.

This comes after Duterte exchanged jokes about sex and womanising with the social welfare secretary at a post-typhoon briefing, where other officials were spotted laughing.

Dumpit said that making jokes about women as a way of coping with stress and Duterte is behaving like his sexism in the government of the Philippines is very normal.
