Unvaccinated Novak Djokovic Deported From Australia After Losing Visa Battle

Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been deported from Melbourne on Sunday after losing his court battle over his visa controversy. The move comes a day before the Australian Open 2022 that will begin on Monday. Earlier, during the hearing, the court had unanimously rejected Djokovic’s application to revoke his visa that was dismissed by the Australian Immigration Department as he is not vaccinated against the Covid-19.

Djokovic who left for Dubai today morning said that he was “extremely disappointed” but has accepted the decision. The final court ruling also ended the chances for the Sebirian player to defend his title at 21st Grand Slam Australian Open.

The 34-year-old had appealed against Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s use of discretionary powers to cancel his visa, as the minister felt that his presence in the country supported the anti-vaccine sentiment.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has welcomed the Federal Court’s decision to deport Novak Djokovic as he said that the decision to ban the unvaccinated player was made on ‘health, safety, and good order grounds’.

The Tennis fans were disappointed with the decision and the court witness a silence after the verdict was announced.
