Was Silver Chariot Movement Legal Or Illegal? What Police, Government Say

Kuala Lumpur: A big controversy has erupted after Penang’s Nattukottai Chettier Temple carried out the annual Silver Chariot Movement on the occasion of Thaipusam. The procession was carried out despite coronavirus-induced movement control order. A number of people, including many Hindus, have raised objections on the “celebration” taking place at a time when there’s a complete ban on such activities. While some have suggested that such an important event must not be ignored and carried out with necessary restrictions in place.

What the government and police have said?

Government

Penang’s Deputy Chief Minister P. Ramasamy has slammed the temple authorities and said that there was nothing in black and white from the National Security Council (NSC). Mr Ramasamy said that the government is going to take stern action against the temple authorities for carrying out the procession. He also criticised the federal minister, M. Saravanan, who had pitched for granting the permission for the chariot.

Police

The Penang police has come up with a strictly contradictory account, saying that the temple authorities had the permission from the National Security Council (NSC). The police has also said that they monitored the 11-hour long movement and all SOPs were duly followed.

So, what will happen now?

Apparently, if the temple had the written approval and the police has said that they followed SOPs, no action can be taken against them. Any such activity from the government will face a potential challenge in the court of law.

Chinese Official Admits That Doctors Knew About Coronavirus

Kuala Lumpur: A Chinese Medical staff has admitted that deadly Coronavirus had first emerged in China and it lied to the World Health Organisation about the human to human virus contract.

China has always been in denial mode and strongly refuted multiple times over the accusation that the virus first emerged in their Wuhan city.

During a sting operation, a medic said the virus was first seen in early December and started spreading within the weeks. The medic claims in a video that the hospital’s medical authorities told staff members to shut their mouth and “not to tell the truth”.

Chinese authorities already knew how dangerous the virus was but they informed the WHO very late. China first informed WHO on 31 December and said that 27 people were infected but no deaths occurred due to the virus.

In mid-January WHO said that there is proof of “human to human transmission”. But within a few weeks, the world’s largest health body realised that this is a pandemic when cases suddenly arose in China and arrived in more than 100 countries, infecting over 118,000 people.

British Broadcaster ITV has released a short documentary which was secretly filmed by citizen journalists, in which one medical professional claims that one of his known persons’ relative had died due to the virus and many of those living with him were also infected.

The report comes at a time when a group of WHO health experts are visiting China’s Wuhan city to investigate the origin of Covid-19 virus that has killed more than 1.9 million people across the world.

Kuala Lumpur: Well, sometimes we see unimaginable scenes – never seen, never thought. Something like this has happened on new year eves this year – as the world decided to celebrate the intervening night 2020-2021 inside the boundary walls of their houses. Why? We all know by now – Coronavirus – the global pandemic that had started from the Chinese city of Wuhan. So many people thought – what about Wuhan – the city that was the world’s first to turn into a ghost town.

The scenes reported from Wuhan were unimaginably bewildering, some say, for others – they were shocking. The city celebrated the new year by partying full house. Packed streets, night clubs and people dancing to madness were common visuals reported from the city.

Well, some may not know this, but the city has not reported a new locally transmitted case of Coronavirus since May 10. Tens of thousands of people gathered in front of Wuhan city hall holding balloons.

Baby Boom In Philippines: Over 200,000 Unplanned Kids To Be Born Next Year

Kuala Lumpur: The Philippines has been under strict lockdown since the first case of deadly Coronavirus arrived in the country in early March. The pandemic has forced over 110 million people to put themselves in their homes after the government barred the movement and restricted the transports across the country.

According to BBC, the lockdown has brought unprecedented challenges in the country as hundreds of women were unable to control the birth rate.

The report says that the Philippines will see more than 214,000 extra babies in the next year due to the strictest and longest lockdown in the world.

This unplanned pregnancy will not only increase the burden on the budget of the government but severely impact the country’s health and social sectors, which is already worse.

The report also claimed that the birth rate has increased mostly in poor and overcrowded areas of the country during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) has claimed that 3 out of every 10 children in the Philippines right now are unplanned and this will create many problems in the country.

Why did birth rate increase during lockdown?

Poor and uneducated women could not go to the clinics since the government imposed the strict lockdown in order to control Covid-19 virus. Due to lockdown and fear of spreading the virus women could not get pregnancy pills and condoms, even at the times when their partners were home all the time.

No Report On The New US Covid-19 Strain: Health Ministry

Kuala Lumpur: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba today said the health ministry had not received any information regarding the new strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the UK.

It is believed that the new strain is more infectious and is spreading and growing rapidly in the UK.

He said if the ministry receives any report, it would take all necessary steps to identify the presence of the variant as well as taking action to prevent its spread.

He said that national border control is very important currently, and assuming a virus like this could enter, Malaysia has not yet fully opened its borders.

Earlier, on Saturday Britain’s prime minister said a new strain, or variant, of the Coronavirus seemed to spread more easily than earlier ones and was moving rapidly through England. According to the reports, the new variant of the Sars-Cov-2 could be up to 70% more transmissible than the old variant.

Moderna’s Covid-19 Vaccine Is 94.5% Effective in Early Results

The American drugmaker Moderna said on Monday that its coronavirus vaccine was 94.5 percent effective, competing with another well-proclaimed drugmaker Pfizer as a front-runner in the global race to contain the raging deadly pandemic that has killed 1.2 million people worldwide.

Both the medicine makers prepare to apply within weeks to the Food and Drug Administration, the US for emergency authorization to begin vaccinating the public.

“These are obviously very exciting results,” said Dr Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease doctor. “It’s just as good as it gets — 94.5% is truly outstanding.”

Experts have said that the two companies could produce enough vaccine for a little more than 20 million people in the United States by sometime in December.

The first doses will be given to the people with the highest risk, like health care workers, emergency medical workers, and fragile residents of nursing homes.
