Anwar Slams Perikatan’s Neglect of Hardcore Poverty Amid State Polls

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim criticized Perikatan Nasional, stating that during their 33-month tenure, they failed to address hardcore poverty and instead focused on accumulating wealth. Anwar highlighted that it is inappropriate for Perikatan leaders to criticize the current Madani government’s efforts to eradicate extreme poverty nationwide when they themselves did not take adequate measures to combat it during their time in power.

Speaking at the Segalanya Felda Carnival held at Felda Teloi Timur, Anwar emphasized that his government prioritized addressing hardcore poverty from the beginning. While acknowledging that general poverty cases remain a concern, Anwar stressed that the focus was on assisting those who struggle to afford basic necessities like formula milk and school uniforms for their children.

Anwar directed criticism towards opposition leaders, accusing them of being unaware of the financial struggles faced by their own supporters. He highlighted that while some people continue to face financial hardship, certain leaders prioritize personal interests by constructing large houses, engaging in land grabbing, and exploiting rare earth resources.

Without naming any specific leader, Anwar stated that it is unbecoming for Perikatan leaders to critique the current government’s initiatives aimed at helping the people. He assured that the current government is committed to assisting the needy and implementing measures to uplift disadvantaged communities.

The Segalanya Felda Carnival witnessed the participation of approximately 3,000 villagers and featured various booths selling food and drinks, as well as exhibitions by Felda and other agencies.
