Malaysia Logs Over 27,000 Fresh Covid Cases, 31 Deaths In 24 Hours

Malaysia on Wednesday reported a total of 27,831 new Covid-19 cases— the highest since August last year. This brings the cumulative total to 3,111,514 infections in the country. Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah informed that a total number of new cases today that a total of 27,734 (99.65 per cent) were categories 1 and 2. While the remaining 97 cases (0.35 per cent) were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

31 New Covid Deaths

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 31 new deaths due to Covid-19 infection as of midnight last night. This brings the total number of deaths due to the pandemic to now 32,180 people, out of 3.04 million Covid-19 positive cases detected in the country.

Over 78% fully vaccinated against Covid

In terms of vaccination against Coronavirus, at least 78.8 per cent of people are fully vaccinated while more than 80 per cent of people have received at least one dose of Covid-19. According to government data, more than 40 per cent of people have been jabbed with booster dose.

No Planning For Fourth Covid-19 vaccine 

Meanwhile, the government has confirmed that it has no plan to start the fourth dose of vaccine against Covid-19 in Malaysia. The statement comes as South Korea announced the fourth dose for its people by end of this month.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali that the government is not considering the fourth dose of Covid-19 in Malaysia. “So far, there is no such plan (by the Malaysia government) for the fourth Covid-19 vaccine dose like the one in South Korea,” the minister told the media on Wednesday.
